Rainbow Reading

Rainbow Reading is an evidence-based learning support programme designed to develop a love of reading and improve students reading skills.

 

What does Rainbow Reading at Oranga School look like?

  • Rainbow Reading is delivered by one of our trained Learning Assistants, Lolini

  • Rainbow Reading is available for our Year 5 & 6 students, as well as students who are ESOL

  • students are selected for the programme by the SENco based on their reading abilities, in consulatation with teachers, whānau and students 

  • students generally stay on the programme for 8-10 weeks

  • students work with the Learning Assistant every day for 30-40 minutes

  • the programme is run in the student's classroom environment

  • lessons incorporate a range of activities inclcuding, 1:1 adult support, listening to audiobook recordings, word and comprehension games, writing activities and self-assessment

  • ongoing assessment and monitoring of student progress ensures that learning is catered to each student and provides the right amount of challenge.

Lolini runs Rainbow Reading at Oranga School.

Our Learning Support Coordinator, Barbara oversees the running of Rainbow Reading at Oranga School. She ensures that resources are up to date and supports Lolini to run the programme.
