Our School Values

​

At Oranga School, our values are at the heart of everything we do. They underpin our learning, relationships, and decision-making, and guide the way we interact with one another every day. We proudly live and breathe The Oranga Way by showing kindness, respect, responsibility, determination, and pride in ourselves, our learning, and our community.

 

Aroha at the heart of The Oranga Way

Aroha surrounds and connects all of our values. It is at the heart of everything we do and gives meaning to the way we act and treat others.

While Haepapa, Hiringa, and Manaakitanga describe the actions and behaviours our students demonstrate, Aroha is the sense of care, belonging, and connection that grows from living these values every day. When we take responsibility, persevere through challenges, and show respect and kindness to others, we create a school where everyone feels safe, valued, and supported.

Each of our values is represented by a symbol that is displayed throughout our school. These symbols are visible in our classrooms, playgrounds, and shared spaces, reminding us that The Oranga Way is something we live every day.

Hiringa - We are determined

​

We show Hiringa when we:

  • Believe we can do hard things.

  • Always try our best.

  • Keep going when learning is challenging.

  • Understand that mistakes are an important part of learning.

Haepapa - We are responsible

 

We show Haepapa when we:

  • Take responsibility for our belongings and our environment.

  • Make positive choices.

  • Can be trusted to do the right thing.

Manaakitanga - We are respectful

 

We show Manaakitanga when we:

  • Use kind and respectful words.

  • Listen to others.

  • Celebrate each other's successes.

  • Help and support those around us.
